Womanhood
You can plot models womanhood along two axes: ( 1) the axis of supporting and resisting male leadership in marriage and the churh (Ephesians 5:22-24); 1 Timothy 2:11-15) and (2) the axis of fearfulness and fearlessness (1 Peter 3:1-6). Godly womanhood involves both welcoming male leadership and fearlessness. It is appropriate for women to take initiative, especially where male leadership is absent. But women can get womanhood get wrong by contantly sliding down the leadership axis so they always resist or replace male leadership (‘stident woman’), or (2)sliding down the fear axis into fearfulness (‘timid woman’), or (3) both (‘Manipulate woman).
Where do you think you are on
both axes?
How could you be more supportive
of male leadership?
How could you be more fearless in
your service?
Manhood
You can plot models manhood along
two axes: ( 1) the axis of proactivity and passivity (2) the axis of
sacrificial service and selfishness. Godly manhood involves both proactivity and
serving. In other words, taking the initiative to serve in the home, in the
church and in the wider community. We can get manhood wrong by (1) sliding down
the proactivity-passivity axis into passivity (‘new mwn’), or (2) sliding down
the service-selfishness axis into selfishness (‘macho man’), or (3) both (‘adolescent
man’)
Where do you think you are on both axes?
How could you be more proactive?
How could you be more serving?
